Atlanta Streetcar Completes Trial Run Under Its Own Power

More trial runs are expected next week, with service slated to begin before the end of the year.

The Atlanta Streetcar project cleared another hurdle earlier this week, when one of its streetcars traveled the length of its route under its own power.

According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the streetcar stopped at each of the 12 stops between Centennial Olympic Park and Auburn Avenue during a test which began shortly after midnight on Wednesday. 11 Alive News reports that the test was scheduled to last around seven hours, but was completed in three because no problems were encountered.

FOX 5 Atlanta reports that two more trial runs will be held next week. If all goes according to plan, passenger service should begin before 2015.
