'Avengers' Production Causes Midtown Traffic Jam: Reports
The city closed down a portion of 14th Street to allow filming of the movie.

ATLANTA, GA — Commuters driving home through Midtown today can blame Hollywood for the extra traffic congestion. The city has closed off a portion of 14th Street, a busy corridor, between Peachtree Street and Crescent Avenue for the filming of the latest "Avengers" movie, according to media reports.
On its website, the Midtown Alliance said that the filming of the movie along 14th Street was scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday. Transportation officials are urging commuters to find alternate routes, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
It's the latest sign that Georgia has overtaken New York, California and other places to become the world's most popular spot to make movies, Curbed Atlanta noted Thursday.

But that distinction comes with a cost, the website said. Along 14th Street on Wednesday, the movie production caused gridlock for much of the day, "as drivers along the usually busy east-west corridor were rerouted to streets too small to handle the influx of traffic."
The actors and production crew are filming a post-apocalyptic scene, say media reports. Production officials posted a sign in the area to remind city residents that it's not an actual disaster, but just a movie, the AJC reported.
