Blick Art Materials Atlanta receives Phoenix Award from City of Atlanta

Blick Art Materials Atlanta receives Phoenix Award for "Outstanding Community Service" for partnership with Atlanta Citizen's Review Board

On Thursday, March 9th, Blick Art Materials Atlanta received the Phoenix Award, the city's highest civilian honor, for "Outstanding Community Service" from Mayor Kasim Reed for their contributions to the 2017 Atlanta Citizen Review Board's Art& Essay Contest in conjunction with the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System. The contest provides a platform for all citizens to be heard, unhindered by anything other than their imagination. With Blick Atlanta’s donation, over 200 schools and 37 libraries were provided with supplies for local youth to participate in the contest and express their creativity.

The Phoenix Award reads, "CONGRATULATIONS On behalf of the People of Atlanta, I commend the Dick Blick Art Materials 2017 Atlanta Citizen Review Board Art & Essay Contest. For 20 years, Blick Art Materials has been an advocate for the arts and has made a positive impact within the city of Atlanta. They have been committed to helping schools and members of the community discover ways to use art materials to engage and inspire our future generation. Your work with local organizations and large foundations to provide supplies and raise funds for those in need is truly admirable. I commend Blick Art Materials for their generous contributions and the opportunities they have given to members of our community. On behalf of the city of Atlanta, I salute Blick Art Materials for offering support and spreading creativity throughout this great city. (Signed) Kasim Reed, Mayor of Atlanta, March 9, 2017."

There will be an award ceremony for the Atlanta City Council to honor all of the winners, their families, school counselors, teachers, principals, and librarians who assisted and encouraged the students during the event. Not only will contest winners be recognized, but the winner’s school will receive a proclamation signed by the entire council.
Atlanta General Manager, Beth Hartzell, accepted the award at City Hall.
