Chick-fil-A Goof? Spicy Biscuit Axed for Egg White Grill

Social media outcry was fast and furious over the Atlanta-based company's menu decision. Take our Patch poll and tell us what you think.

ATLANTA, GA — Chick-fil-A's decision to remove a popular breakfast item from its menu is causing a social media uproar.

For the first time since 2010, the Atlanta-based restaurant chain has added a new breakfast menu item, the Egg White Grill, which it says is a lower-calorie menu option made with a breakfast-sized portion of grilled chicken breast, grilled egg whites and American cheese on a toasted multi-grain English muffin. The sandwich has 300 calories and 25 grams of protein, and starts at $3.35.

But in a less heralded announcement, the company — recently chosen as America's favorite fast food restaurant in an American Customer Satisfaction Index report — announced on Twitter that it is removing its spicy chicken biscuit:

That's when the social media outrage began:

The company also removed the oatmeal/cinnamon cluster from its menu.

"The decision to remove the oatmeal/cinnamon cluster/spicy biscuit from the menu was a difficult one, but we have heard from customers that many of them are looking for new flavors and more nutritious options," according to a statement from the company. "We had to remove Oatmeal/Cinnamon Cluster/Spicy Biscuit (in select markets) from the menu to make room for our new Egg White Grill, a protein-packed breakfast sandwich that includes grilled chicken, egg whites and American cheese on a toasted English muffin.

"We hope our customers will be pleased with the addition of the Egg White Grill."
