Christmas Pageantry on Piedmont Continues

Rock Spring Church offers live nativity and candlelight Christmas Eve services

Rock Spring Presbyterian Church at 1824 Piedmont Rd, in the Piedmont Heights area of Midtown, will once again offer their annual Live Nativity Scene on Friday and Saturday December 23rd and 24th. Friday’s scenes will run every half hour from 7:00-8:30pm and Saturday’s scenes will run 7:00-9:00pm. Started in 1953 by the church’s youth group this Nativity Scene has been elaborated and continuously run since then and is the longest continual Live Nativity Scene in Atlanta. The Live Nativity shares the story of the birth of Jesus in half hour tableaus, with congregants and neighbors playing the roles of shepherds, wise men (and women), the holy family and angel. Live animals fill the yard as does a sound track of music and scripture. The scene goes on no matter what the weather and is best viewed by parking and standing beside the fence of the manger scene.

Watching the scene can get chilly and so viewers are encouraged to head inside to the church’s fellowship hall where there are hot beverages to warm up with and tables of refreshments. The celebrated church sanctuary will be open and staffed with tour guides who can answer questions and tell stories of the church’s and the building’s history.

Friday, all during the scene (7-8:30pm) in Fellowship Hall, there will also be a Bluegrass jam featuring Rock Spring’s in-house Bluegrass band Hicks with Picks. Folks are encouraged to bring their instruments and join in the Christmas pickin’. Saturday night the Live Nativity Scenes (7-9pm) will be between two Christmas Eve worship services.

On Christmas Eve, Saturday December 24th, services at Rock Spring will be at 5:30pm and at 9:00pm. The 5:30pm service will be fun, interactive and very family friendly and the 9 o’clock service will be a more traditional candlelight service with communion. Rock Spring Church invites all to come to their Live Nativity Scenes and to their Christmas Eve services. All are welcome, no exceptions.
