City of Atlanta Opens All Swimming Pools and Cooling Stations
Atlanta Fire Rescue fire stations will also be stocked with free water bottles to help residents stay cool during the heat wave.

In response to high temperatures expected this week, Mayor Kasim Reed, the Atlanta Fire Rescue (AFRD), Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) and the Mayor’s Office of Constituent Services will open three cooling stations to ensure that Atlanta residents have a safe place to stay cool during the heat wave. Residents, especially senior citizens, are strongly advised to take advantage of these cooling stations if needed. AFRD is also offering free bottled water at all fire stations. Additionally, eleven city swimming pools will be free for all patrons. These include: Adams, Anderson, Candler, Rosa L. Burney, Grant, Pittman, Powell, John A. White, Rev. James Orange, South Bend and Thomasville pools.
Cooling stations will open tomorrow from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., and will remain open until further notice.

To stay safe and cool during heat advisories and warnings, please follow these tips:

- Stay indoors in air-conditioned spaces as much as possible and limit exposure to the sun.
- Dress in loose-fitting, lightweight and light-colored clothes that cover as much skin as possible. Familiarize yourself with the medical conditions that can result from over-exposure to heat, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke to help lessen health threats and harm.
- Avoid strenuous work during the warmest part of the day. Use a buddy system when working in extreme heat, and take frequent breaks.
- Never leave children or pets alone in closed vehicles.
- Make sure pets have plenty of water and shade, be careful to not over-exercise them, and keep them indoors when it’s extremely hot.
Closely monitor a local radio station, TV station or NOAA Weather Radio for the latest information on excessive heat watches and warnings.
