Cold Temps Cause Water Main Break in Midtown
Several lanes of traffic have been closed across the city because of treacherous, icy conditions.

Maintenance crews are working to repair burst water mains caused by brutally cold overnight temperatures in Atlanta, the city’s department of watershed management said Friday.
According to WSB-TV, a water main underneath Peachtree Street in Midtown burst on Thursday, sending water gushing into the air. Cold temperatures then froze the water onto the roadway, causing dangerous black ice conditions for motorists, WSB-TV said. Another water main at Marietta Boulevard and Roswell Avenue burst as well, the department said.
In Buckhead, the department reported that a water main burst at Piedmont and Roswell roads, causing crews to begin emergency repairs.

“Water service may be interrupted during the repairs, and work may result in temporary lane closures,” the department said in a statement. “Traffic control measures will be in place to guide motorists around the work zone.”
Motorists are urged to avoid the affected areas if at all possible.
