David Perdue: May Obama's Days Be Numbered
Georgia's junior senator says he wasn't calling for President Obama's death, but says the media is causing "stupid faux controversies."

U.S. Sen. David Perdue's Friday morning comment about President Obama has caused quite the social media hubub.
Perdue was adressing the Faith & Freedom Coalition's Road to Majority conference in Washington. Georgia's junior senator began his remarks by asking attendees to pray for Obama, but in a very specific way, as reported by the Daily Beast: “We should pray for him like Psalms 109:8 says: May his days be short and another take his office.”
Here's what the rest of the passage says: “May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow. May his children be wandering beggars; may they be driven from their ruined homes."

Here's more: “Let the creditor seize all that he has, and let strangers plunder his labor. Let there be none to extend mercy to him, nor let there be any to favor his fatherless children. Let his posterity be cut off, and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.”
It didn't take long for a social media firestorm to erupt:

Unless he apologizes immediately, U.S. Senate should censure @sendavidperdue. He is a disgrace. @SenatorReid @SenateMajLdr

So @sendavidperdue slyly said he'd like to see Obama dead. Also, read the verse after number 8. Fatherless, Widow. pic.twitter.com/cdZvMZVGJ9
Why is @sendavidperdue praying for @potus to die? Is that what’s acceptable at @FaithandFreedom these days? #gapol https://t.co/zCNwBoKBK3

@daveweigel Nobody can make "I will pray for you" a threat like religious conservatives.
Republican Senator David Perdue is praying for President Obama to die.

This is why Trump is the GOP nominee. https://t.co/tHej9VNlaI
For his part, Perdue responded that he took the passage straight out of the Bible, and didn't regret his statement:

Perdue's office also sent out this statement:
“Senator Perdue said we are called to pray for our country, for our leaders, and for our president. He in no way wishes harm towards our president and everyone in the room understood that. However, we should add the media to our prayer list because they are pushing a narrative to create controversy and that is exactly what the American people are tired of.”
GOP presumptive presidential nominee is scheduled to keynote the conference later on Friday.
