Off-Duty Police Officer Sees Midtown Mugging in Progress, Helps Arrest Six
The suspects are believed to be behind another robbery in the area, police said.

An off-duty Atlanta police officer’s instincts served him well when he came across a mugging in progress near the Georgia Tech campus and followed the suspects’ vehicle while asking for backup.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the officer was leaving a part-time job on Tech Parkway at 1 a.m. Tuesday when he saw a group of people surround a pedestrian, punch him, and run off with his bookbag. After the suspects hopped into their getaway vehicle, the off-duty officer gave chase.
Police from Georgia Tech picked up on the chase and soon had the suspects’ car pulled over. Five people inside the vehicle, including three juveniles, were arrested, the AJC reports. Police recovered the victim’s stolen property from the car. The driver of the vehicle escaped initially but was soon tracked down and arrested.

The three adult suspects, Barry Harper, Iman Jones, and Joi Pipins, face robbery and other charges, the AJC says.
