Entering Auto Suspect Flees Police Near Midtown

Three firearms were stolen from several cars left in a parking lot early Sunday morning.

Atlanta police are searching for a man they believe broken into several cars in a parking lot near Midtown on Sunday.

According to a police report, two officers arrived at 418 Marietta St. just before 2 a.m. in reference to someone actively stealing a vehicle in the parking lot. The officers shined a light inside a dark colored Mazda sedan leaving the lot, and discovered a ”startled” black male driver, who sped out of the parking lot towards the officers, the report said.

As the Mazda fled the lot, it struck the officers’ car and another parked vehicle before heading south on Marietta Street, according to the report. The officers, uninjured in the collision, searched for the suspect or the car but were unable to find either.

The officers returned to the scene and discovered seven vehicles had been broken into, with three firearms being taken from the vehicles along with other miscellaneous items ,the report concludes.

Anyone with information on the break-ins is asked to contact police.
