An evening of Bluegrass Gospel comes to Piedmont Ave

Music is alive and well on Piedmont Ave in the heart of Piedmont Heights. Bluegrass Gospel concert at vintage church across from BBQ & Blues

Corner of Rock Springs and Piedmont is home to Blues AND Bluegrass

The sanctuary of Rock Spring Presbyterian Church at 1824 Piedmont Ave, across from a famous blues venue and rib shack, will be rocking to the sounds of a different kind of “blues”—namely Bluegrass Gospel. On the evening of Saturday April 1s starting at 7:30pm three different bluegrass bands will perform a variety of traditional and original bluegrass gospel favorites. This community musical event is offered free of charge and is open to everyone.

The renowned Sonny Houston Band, Garden Fresh Pickers and Rock Spring Church's own house bluegrass band Hicks with Picks will take the stage Saturday April 1st at 7:30pm in the sanctuary of the church. Each band brings their unique take on the genre with exceptional instrumental soloists and haunting bluegrass harmonies. The concert features a subset of bluegrass music, Bluegrass Gospel, which expresses the spiritual yearnings and aspirations of this uniquely American music.

The traditional bluegrass instruments of banjo, mandolin, upright bass, fiddle, and guitar will be featured at the concert. In Bluegrass, like jazz and blues, the players take improvised “breaks” and “riffs” so that each song is a unique performance. Though this music grew out of Appalachia and the hard and beautiful living there it transcends its roots to meet us where we live, on Piedmont Rd or elsewhere.
