exNYE 2016: Atlanta Band exwhy Hosts Third Annual New Year's Eve Concert with Slowriter, Flower, Fox Grin, and more!

Music and revelry on tap at New Year's Eve concert at Vinyl featuring exwhy, Slowriter, Bear Girl, Capital Arms, Fox Grin, Flower and more!

Atlanta indie rock band exwhy hosts their annual New Year’s Eve concert, dubbed exNYE 2016 this year, on Thursday, December 31, at Vinyl. Doors open at 8 p.m., and the show starts at 8:30 p.m. with music until 2 a.m. The all-ages event costs $5 in advance (through RSVP to the Facebook event page https://www.facebook.com/events/778195045640356/) and $7 at the door. A champagne toast takes place at midnight, and exwhy begins playing immediately after. In addition to exwhy, the event features performances by Slowriter (former members of The Chariot), Bear Girl, Capital Arms, Fox Grin, Flower, The Marrows, and Sleep Dance.

This is the third installment of the event which moves to Center Stage’s Vinyl nightclub in anticipation of its usual abundant turnout. “We used to do this at our house,” says exwhy guitarist Jason Murray, “But it kept growing, and, after a while, we realized we just couldn’t keep accommodating 200 to 250 people. We needed a different venue.”

exNYE has achieved legendary status among show-goers in Atlanta, often providing a unique, intimate experience with several local favorites while retaining the energy of a large performance. “It’s the bands and people that make it special,” explains exwhy vocalist Jack Fowler. “It’s its own microcosm within the scene and a way for people to see their friends and their favorite bands as we bring in the New Year.”

As the poppy, post-rock outfit solidifies its hold on Atlanta through highly anticipated events, exwhy continues to grow as both a leader in the city’s music scene and a recognizable act in the band’s own right. When asked about the origins of the band’s name, Murray continues, “We wanted to come up with something that stood out and was easy to remember. exwhy accomplished that for us, but it has since grown into an embodiment of our dedication and our desire to create without reservation.”
