First iPic Theater In Georgia Coming To Midtown

The movie theater, bar and restaurant will be a centerpiece of the renovated Colony Square on Peachtree and 14th streets.

ATLANTA, GA — iPic, the luxury movie theater and restaurant brand from Austin, Texas, is coming to Atlanta. The company announced Wednesday that a nine-screen, 426-seat theater and restaurant will open in 2020 at the Colony Square development at the corner of Peachtree and 14th streets.

iPic Theaters feature premium viewing pods and chaise lounge reclining seat options along with "chef-driven" restaurants and bars. The midtown location will be the first iPic theater in Georgia.

"We have had our eye on the Atlanta market for five years now, and the Colony Square redevelopment project allowed us to launch the iPic brand experience into one of the top ten (markets) in the country," said Hamid Hashemi, iPic's president and CEO. "This market has consistently been heralded as one of the most walkable in the nation, making our ground-floor presence at Colony Square all the more impactful in delivering a quality entertainment, dining and experiential destination for arts and culture under one roof."

Built in 1968 as an early example of a mixed-use development, Colony Square currently is undergoing a major redevelopment. In all, the new development will feature about 260,000 square feet of retail space, 262 residences, 940,000 square feet of office space and a 466-room hotel.

"After five years of searching for its first Georgia location, we are thrilled iPic Theaters, along with its incredible restaurant concept, has chosen to call Colony Square home,: said David Weinert, partner and senior vice president of leasing at North American Properties. "Known for its luxury seating, farm-to-glass cocktails, chef-driven cuisine and 'ninja-like' servers, this is a movie going experience unlike anything in Georgia."

The intimate iPic theaters will seat from 40-60 patrons each. In addition to movies, they will host live shows including magic, comedy, gaming competitions and the like.

Oh ... and those seating pods? They are leather and come with personal pillows and blankets, as well as a button to let you summon a server.

The movies themselves will feature 4K digital cinema technology and all seats may be reserved ahead of time on iPic’s reservation system.
