Flooding Midtown Intersection Not An Easy Fix, City Says

The City of Atlanta is looking for ways to fund the project, which requires underground piping and storm drains.

A Midtown intersection which floods on a regular basis needs more than a quick fix to prevent the water from rushing back in, the City of Atlanta says.

Every time it rains in Midtown, the intersection of Piedmont Avenue and East Morningside Drive accrues a pond of water which makes driving treacherous. Residents tell WSB-TV that they’ve been trying to get the city to do something about it for at least five years, but have yet to have any success.

A city spokesperson told the station that an initial survey of the intersection revealed that the only way to prevent the intersection from flooding would be to install below ground piping and storm drains, a repair job the city said would be extensive. The city says it’s looking at ways to fund the project.
