Former Atlanta Cop Involved in Fatal Wreck Indicted

A Fulton County grand jury has indicted a former officer of the Atlanta Police department who was terminated after he sped through an intersection on a non-emergency call and collided with another vehicle, killing the driver.

Following Tuesday's indictment Joshua Sieck now faces counts of first and second degree vehicular homicide, reckless driving, and speeding in the July 21, 2012 accident that led to the death of 59-year-old Jacqueline Culp, said the Fulton County District Attorney's Office in a statement.

Sieck, who had been on the force for less than a year, was responding to a non-emergency call as backup when he sped through a red light at the intersection of Fairburn and Cascade roads at an estimated 65 miles per hour, which is twenty miles per hour over the posted speed limit.

Culp was traveling southbound on Fairburn road with the right of way when she was t-boned by Sieck's cruiser. According to the indictment, Sieck failed to apply the brakes or even check if the intersection was clear.

Culp sustained massive injuries in the accident, and died from those injuries on July 23, 2012. Sieck was terminated by the Atlanta Police Department following an internal investigation.

Sieck's case will now be sent to a Fulton County Superior Court Judge and a trial date set.
