Georgia Public Broadcasting Announces PBS Kids Writers Contest
Georgia Kids in Grades K-3 Encouraged to Submit Original Stories

ATLANTA, GA, (January 16, 2018) – Today, Georgia Public Broadcasting announced its PBS KIDS Writers Contest, designed to promote the advancement of children’s literacy skills through hands-on, active learning. The Contest empowers children in grades K-3 to celebrate creativity and build literacy skills by writing and illustrating their very own stories.
“GPB is committed to helping Georgia children build valuable literacy skills through fun, hands-on opportunities to express their creativity and explore their imagination,” said GPB President and CEO Teya Ryan. “Through providing opportunities for Georgia kids to learn and explore through creative writing, GPB is making a commitment to its children and their long term success, in school and in life.”

Beginning January 22, 2018, Georgia children in grades K-3 can submit their entries to the GPB - PBS KIDS Writers Contest. GPB will select winners and award prizes in the spring of 2018. Additionally, local winners will get narrate their story in a radio booth at our GPB headquarters and be featured on www.gpb.org.

The Contest is supported by a robust set of resources for children, parents and teachers which can be found at www.gpb.org/writers-contest. Story organizers, checklists, and activity sheets are available on the Contest website to inspire children during the brainstorming process. PBS LearningMedia also offerings a collection of online teacher resources for use in classrooms nationwide.
