Georgia Weather Forecast: Snow Chance This Week

ATLANTA, GA — It's going to be a cold and icy week in metro Atlanta, with freezing temperatures — and even a chance of snow — in the forecast between now and New Year's Day.

High temperatures are expected to be in the 40s this week, with lows dipping down below freezing most nights between now and New Year's Day on Monday. We're also in for some precipitation which could mean a wintry mix in the skies.

There's a slight chance of rain and sleet before 9 a.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service, then another chance on Thursday afternoon. Friday and Saturday are expected to be clear but, on New Year's Eve, we'll have a slight chance of rain and snow.

Temperatures will plunge to a chilly 24 degrees that night, too, so if you have New Year's Eve plans, make sure to bundle up.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 48. East wind 5-10 m.p.h. Tuesday night, partly cloudy, with a low around 35.

Wednesday: A slight chance of rain and sleet before 9 a.m, then a slight chance of rain between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 45. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent. Mostly cloudy Wednesday night, with a low around 32.

Thursday: A chance of rain and sleet, mainly after 1 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 36. East wind around 10 m.p.h., with gusts as high as 15 m.p.h. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. Thursday night, a slight chance of freezing rain and sleet. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 45. Mostly clear Friday night, with a low around 30.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 47. Saturday night, mostly clear, with a low around 27.

New Year's Eve: A 20 percent chance of rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 38. A slight chance of rain and snow Sunday night. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

New Year's Day: A slight chance of rain and snow. Mostly sunny, with a high near 36. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
