Gun Shop, Firing Range Open Behind Atlantic Station
An Atlanta City Council ordinance that was intended to keep the business from opening will instead prevent future competitors.

Two Atlanta lawyers can thank the Atlanta City Council’s attempt to block their business venture for giving them a near-monopoly on firing ranges within city limits, WSB-TV reports.
When the city council passed a restrictive firing range ordinance in 2013, they hoped to prevent Stoddard’s Range and Guns from opening its planned location at 485 Bishop St. in Loring Heights, WSB-TV reports, but owners Michael Halbreich and Ken Baye already had the proper permits to operate the range and were thus grandfathered in.
Any potential competitors to Stoddard’s will have to comply with the tougher regulations, which include a restriction on firing ranges within 800 feet of residences, schools, parks, libraries, churches, hospitals, or child care facilities.
