Huge Creators: The Power of Creativity Through Food, Film, Science & Art

Join us for a panel discussion exploring the creative processes and conversations that arise throughout artistic development. Huge Atlanta’s Group Creative Director Derek Fridman will moderate a conversation around creative expression with the Sound Table’s Karl Injex, filmmaker Alex Orr, Chris Carter of MASS Collective, and artist Michi Meko. Q&A will follow the discussion.

Hang out afterwards to meet Atlanta creatives and enjoy an open bar with drinks and food provided by the Sound Table and music by Rare Form DJ tD.

Derek Fridman

Derek Fridman dreams up innovative and engaging digital experiences for brands of all kinds, specializing in the design of multi-channel platforms for touch, mobile, web and in-store. His background is anchored in both UX and visual design, giving him the ability to transform complex usability problems into beautifully simple and intuitive interfaces. At Huge, Derek has applied his expertise to projects for Audi, HBO GO, and Lowe’s. Previously, he led the development of award winning touchscreen retail and mobile entertainment applications for The Coca-Cola Company, Disney, Adobe, AutoTrader UK, and New Balance as Creative Director at Sapient Nitro. Derek’s 12 years of experience also comprise engagements for Mercedes AMG and Verizon Wireless. Born in Puerto Rico, he has worked on both coasts and in Europe for several agencies including Razorfish and Zentropy. Derek holds a degree in Visual Communications from the Art Institute of Atlanta.

Karl Injex

Karl Injex is an award-winning DJ, music consultant and restaurateur who has developed music programs for such notable clients as Puma, Benetton, The Mercer Kitchen and The Standard Hotel. In 2010 he opened the Sound Table on Edgewood Avenue. Recognized as one of the ‘100 Best Places to Drink in the South’ by Imbibe Magazine, ‘Top 50 Restaurants’ by Atlanta Magazine and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and most recently ‘Best 50 Bars in America’ by Food and Wine Magazine, the Sound Table is an evolving conversation between food, drink, music and the culture defined by their tangents.

Alex Orr

Alex Orr is a producer, writer and director in Atlanta, GA. His producing credits include Adult Swim’s Your Pretty Face is Going To Hell, Joe Swanberg’s 24 Exposures, Synchronicity, and Congratulations! He has written and directed two feature films Blood Car and A is for Alex. He is a founding member of the production company/film collective Fake Wood Wallpaper.  

Chris Carter

Christopher Carter is a futurist, autodidactic physic nerd, and electronics guru with a penchant for unicycling and playing the ukulele. He’s got one heck of a preoccupation with the renaissance idea of lateral intellectualism and enjoys things that go woosh, zap, buzz, hum, and sometimes fwoom.  His drawings are best made with a slide rule and compass at hand and are, like his books, almost entirely non-fiction. As the eponymous “shadowy overlord of MASS” you’ll catch him tinkering with his most recent gadget or blathering about society, innovation, and how to save the world through appropriate technologies.

Michi Meko

Michi Meko’s work as a multi-disciplinary artist draws influence from rural southern culture and contemporary urban subcultures. He has developed a system of gathering that allows hybridizing and remixing the contents into a multilingual dialect that endows ordinary and rejected objects with historic and spiritual powers. By reworking and mashing up iconography the works begin to establish a new identity, an identity with possibilities of life to come, giving voice to the forgotten, and demonstrating significant resiliency and strength that offers hope and possibility. The works allude to conditions both physical and psychological, and are a proclamation of perseverance and remembrance.
