On Sept. 27, 2014, students, staff, and community volunteers will come together to make Cristo Rey Jesuit High School a healthier, more sustainable learning environment by updating the community garden, participating in a school-wide clean up and recycling initiative, launching an environmental awareness program, and encouraging student-led “trash-to-treasure” recycling projects. To commemorate this effort, the school will also create a mural representing the Cristo Rey motto to promote environmental sustainability.
More than two hundred volunteers and students will spend the day working on these exciting school service projects, many of which will be incorporated into Cristo Rey curriculums –forging a unique link between green living and education.
