Imposter Uber Drivers Hit Midtown Streets
Uber and Lyft use safeguards to ensure their customers aren't picked up by strangers, but a woman was almost assaulted last weekend.

A woman who got into a car she thought was being driven by an Uber participant got a rude shock last weekend when the man tried to sexually assault her.
According to 11 Alive, the woman called Uber for a ride home, and a car soon arrived with a driver who said he was driving for the company. Unfortunately, the Uber safeguards, which include the driver’s picture and his or her phone number, did not arrive on the woman’s phone before she got in the stranger’s car.
As it turns out, the white male with dark hair and a thick Russian accent was not an Uber driver, and he drove in circles while trying to molest the woman. She escaped from his clutches and ran screaming down Ponce de Leon Avenue.
