Jury Returns Nearly $11 million Verdict for Woman Represented by Atlanta Law Firm Finch McCranie, LLP
The verdict is believed to be the largest ever medical malpractice verdict in Habersham County.
On July 21, 2015, a Habersham County Superior Court jury returned a verdict of nearly $11 million ($10,964,000) in a medical malpractice case brought by the Atlanta-based law firm of Finch McCranie, LLP. Attorneys Richard W. Hendrix and Steven R. Wisebram, Finch McCranie, LLP partners, believe this is the largest medical malpractice verdict in Habersham County history, as well as the largest personal injury verdict ever returned in the county.
Hendrix and Wisebram represented Glenda Daniels in a suit against Habersham Medical Center. Daniels underwent a gallbladder removal at the hospital in 2012. During the procedure, Dr. Chadwick V. Thomas lacerated an artery. Despite the severe loss of blood, Daniels did not receive a transfusion before being transferred to the N.E. Georgia Medical Center. As a result, Daniels contends she was permanently impaired and profoundly disabled, and incurred over $3 million in medical expenses.
The jury returned a verdict in favor of Daniels of just under $11 million, finding she had received substandard medical care from employees of Habersham Medical Center, surgeon Dr. Chadwick Thomas and from two Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists employed by Habersham Anesthesiology Associates. Fifteen percent of the verdict was apportioned to Habersham Anesthesiology Associates.
