Lassie Teaches Preschoolers Disaster Prep
Primrose Schools' preschoolers learn how to prepare and stay safe in the event of an emergency or disaster

Kicking off a multi-year partnership with Save the Children, Primrose Schools hosted a “Prep Rally” event at Primrose School of Midtown at Colony Square on Thursday, September 18, to promote the importance of being prepared as a family in the event of a disaster.
Part of Save the Children’s national “Get Ready, Get Safe” initiative, the event engaged 50+ Primrose preschoolers in disaster prep activities and safety lessons, and provided handouts to help their families develop a disaster plan at home. State Rep. Kimberly Alexander – who proposed the Child Safety and Emergency Preparedness Act (HB 1055) during the 2013-2014 Georgia Legislative Session – attended and participated in the event. And, Primrose Schools’ President & CEO Jo Kirchner also led a safety reading with students.
Save the Children offers these three steps on “How to Protect Your Family”:

1. Make a plan: Include emergency contacts, evacuation routes, meet-up locations and safe rooms in a detailed and thoughtful plan. Talk about it with your kids and reference the Disaster Checklist to make sure you have thought through every scenario.
2. Make a kit: In addition to basic survival items like water, canned food, radio and flashlights, be sure to include kid-friendly items such as games, activities and comfort items. This Disaster Supplies Checklist can help you get started.

Each day at approximately 40 Primrose schools across Georgia and hundreds more across the country, preschoolers are developing valuable skills to better help them prepare with their families in the event of a disaster. The “Prep Rally” event is a part of Primrose’s early learning advocacy efforts to ensure the education, safety and protection of children from harm.
