LifeLine Animal Project Unleashes Campaign to Achieve No-Kill Atlanta by End of 2016

LifeLine pledging to make history with no-kill county shelters, and meet our pets of the week: four boys who are ready to steal your heart!

I’m excited to announce that LifeLine Animal Project, the non-profit organization that manages both DeKalb and Fulton County Animal Services shelters, is pledging to go no kill at both shelters by the end of 2016!

In 2014, LifeLine cared for 15,559 homeless animals and has dramatically increased adoption rates by 98 percent since commencing management of the county shelters. Under LifeLine’s leadership, both shelters are within a few percentage points of the no-kill threshold, defined as saving 90% or more of the animals entering the shelters.

The “I’m In” campaign, which features local spokespeople declaring their support for a no-kill Atlanta, kicks off on July 1, 2015, and campaign ads are featured on the sides of MARTA buses throughout Atlanta.

LifeLine is asking all Atlantans to join this historic effort by changing their social media profile pictures to the “I’m In” logo in a show of support on July 1, 2015. You can also join the campaign by visiting LifeLineAnimal.org to take the “I’m In” pledge and by uploading a picture or video of your pet to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #In4LifeLine.

Additionally, spaying or neutering your pet, adopting rather than purchasing pets, licensing your pet, volunteering at one of our shelters or donating funds -- every action can help ensure the success of a no-kill Atlanta by the end of 2016.

We have some awesome Pets of the Week for you this week, and they all qualify for a FREE pet adoption until Tuesday!

First, meet Kimbo. This adorable two-year-old boy is a total sweetheart. With his baby-soft fur, his calm, serene nature and his affectionate personality, Kimbo is loved by everyone who meets him. He is also on the small side of medium, so he is the perfect size for any home. Come in and meet this dream dog today!

Next is a stunningly handsome boy named Duck. This two-year-old lab mix is smart, gets along well with other dogs and has a medium energy level. He loves to take walks, play in the yard and lay on the floor next to your feet. Duck is already neutered and has had all his shots, so he can leave with you today!

Our third pet is a huge fan of all humans. Meet Tango, a smiley guy whose favorite place is by your side. This big boy has a happy-go-lucky personality and will be very dedicated to pleasing his new family. Tango is great with other dogs too and will be a very loyal companion.

Finally, we have Frisco. This one-year-old male cat is an active boy who entertains the staff with his playful antics in the shelter’s cat colony room. He is also very handsome and very affectionate.

Come in today and meet Kimbo, Duck, Tango or Ricky! If you adopt any of them before Tuesday, you’ll pay nothing during our “Beat the Heat” promotion! Adopt any dog or cat over six months old (and over 25 lbs. for dogs) until June 30, and your adoption fee is FREE! This includes their spay/neuter, vaccines and microchips!
