Fulton Animal Shelter Braces For Higher Intake Levels

More animals born during the spring and summer mean higher intake levels at LifeLine's shelter. Plus, meet the latest Pet of the Week.

Springtime in Atlanta brings sunshine, Dogwood blooms and, sadly, skyrocketing intake levels at LifeLine’s DeKalb County Animal Services and Fulton County Animal Services shelters due to the high number of animals being born.

From bottle-feeding kittens to heartworm positive senior dogs, we take in an average of 80 animals daily!

Want to help us keep the shelter animals happy? There are many ways you can! One way to help is to adopt, and during our March and April promotion, adoptions are only $40 on all dogs weighing over 25 pounds and all cats. The adoption includes the pet’s spay/neuter, microchip and vaccines and is valid at all of LifeLine’s shelters, including FCAS, DCAS, LifeLine’s Dog House & Kitty Motel and LifeLine’s Cat Adoption Center.

Not able to adopt right now? Then how about fostering a pet? Even if you can only commit for a few weeks, you can become a short-term foster parent for one of our pets who will be going on transport to a rescue group or shelter.

Additionally, there are many other ways you can help, including taking a shelter dog out for a hike through our “Dog for a Day” program, fostering a bottle-feeding kitten, hosting a dog overnight for a slumber party, cuddling with kittens at our Cat Adoption Center, joining our dog Run Club, purchasing items off our Amazon Wish List, and the list goes on! Learn more about these and other fun ways to help here.

LifeLine’s Fulton County Animal Services Pet of the Week: Tom

Our Fulton County Animal Services Pet of the Week is a goofy, bashful boy named Tom. This gentle two year old was very frightened when he first arrived, but is coming out of his shell more and more every day. Although Tom is initially scared when we take him out of his kennel, once he gets outdoors his playful side emerges!

Tom will jump near your feet and then jump away as an invitation to play. Always polite, Tom will jump around you, but never on you. He loves toys, playing chase and taking treats out of your hand very gently. Tom needs someone to love him, and in return he will be a wonderful and loyal family member.

You can see video of how Tom has changed from being a frightened boy to a playful guy after receiving love from staff and volunteers here.

Adopt Tom during our “Spring into Adoption” promotion during March and April, and his adoption fee will be only $40, including his neuter, microchip and vaccinations!

To meet Tom, just drop by the shelter, 860 Marietta Blvd, NW, Atlanta, 30318, email adoptions@fultonanimalservices.com or call 404-613-0357.
