UPDATE: Police Seek Vehicle, Suspects in "Murder Kroger" Killing

Atlanta police have obtained security camera footage which allegedly shows the suspects and their getaway vehicle.

UPDATE (5:34 p.m.): Atlanta police have released a video purportedly showing the suspects involved in the murder of a man in the parking lot of the Kroger on Ponce de Leon Avenue.

At approximately 2 p.m. Tuesday, a man was shot and killed in the parking lot of the so-called “Murder Kroger” after he confronted someone who was trying to break in to his car. The suspects then fled the scene in what is described as a black BMW, possibly with tinted windows and a drive-out tag.

Police have released security camera footage of the parking lot which shows the black BMW backing into a space, then two individuals exiting the vehicle. The video then shows the BMW leaving the parking lot on to North Avenue. Police would like to talk to the individuals seen exiting the BMW.

According to Atlanta police spokesman Greg Lyon, police and fire units are at the back of the Kroger at 725 Ponce de Leon Ave. in reference to a man shot and killed at the scene. No other details are available as of 3:00 p.m. Tuesday.

This particular Kroger is not unaccustomed to death; at least two people have been found dead in the parking lot of the store since it opened in 1986. Because of these deaths, the store gained the moniker of the ”Murder Kroger.”

The name has galvanized people who disapprove and enjoy the nickname; efforts are underway to re-brand the store as the “BeltLine Kroger” following an extensive renovation of the property which finished up late last year. A Kroger spokesman told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in November that the company preferred the new nickname.
