UPDATE: Man Shot in Midtown, Drugs "May Have Been Factor"
The victim is alert, breathing, and conscious, according to Atlanta police.

UPDATE (10:30 p.m.): Atlanta police have released a statement regarding the shooting which occurred in Midtown on Wednesday.
According to the statement, a 23-year-old man was shot at least once in the back in the vicnity of 121 8th St. at approximately 8:50 p.m. The man was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and was alert, breathing, and conscious, the statement read.
Investigators believe the shooting may have been drug-related, and said that the victim and the shooter knew one another, according to the statement. No arrests have been made yet.

Police spokesperson Ralph Woolfolk tells Patch that the victim is a 23-year-old male, not a man in his fifties as originally reported.

ORIGINAL STORY (9:00 p.m.): Atlanta police are investigating a shooting which occurred in Midtown on Wednesday evening.
Police spokesman Ralph Woolfolk tells Patch that the victim, a man in his fifties, was shot in the back near 121 8th St. Police were alerted of the shooting at 8:50 p.m., Woolfolk says.
Woolfolk says that the victim is being taken to a local hospital.
