Man Wanted For Sex Offenses Caught by Atlanta Police

License plate recognition technology helped police catch a man wanted in several counties for sex offenses and other crimes.

ATLANTA, GA — A suspected sex offender was arrested in Buckhead last week through the use of license plate recognition technology.

According to the Atlanta police report, on Oct. 13, police were notified that a stolen BMW had been spotted by a license plate camera at the Lenox and East Paces Ferry road intersection. Officers in a nearby police cruiser ran the plate and determined the vehicle had been stolen out of Cobb County and was possibly being driven by Landry Young, a suspect with multiple outstanding warrants from Gwinnett, Jackson and DeKalb counties.

Young's DeKalb arrest warrant was issued for Young's failure to register as a sex offender, while the Jackson County warrant was issued for a sex offender violation. Young was also wanted in Gwinnett County for alleged felony financial identity fraud, fleeing/eluding a police officer, and vairous traffic offenses.

After distributing a photo of Young to other officers inside the mall and in the area, Young was spotted by police and attempted to run away. He was eventually apprehended in a bottom level of the Lenox Square parking garage.

Police said Young had the FOB to the stolen BMW in his pocket, as well as two diamond rings, two diamond earrings and $952 in cash.
