Discarded Cigarette To Blame For Midtown Apartment Fire

Several families were displaced when a fire broke out at Ansley Forest Apartments on Piedmont Avenue.

ATLANTA, GA — Updated at 4:13 pm — An improperly discarded cigarette was the cause of a late Wednesday night fire at a Midtown apartment complex.

Several families were left without a home after an intense fire at the Ansley Forest Apartment complex on Piedmont Avenue that lasted through early Thursday morning. Fire officials released the cause of the blaze late Thursday afternoon, according to WSB.

The fire broke out around 10:30 pm, according to an Atlanta fire department spokesman.

The fire could be seen from Ansley Mall, and several social media users posted images and videos.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The blaze apparently began on the third floor of one of the buildings and spread from there.
