Midtown Chef Wins Georgia's Best Shrimp & Grits

Andrew Smith of West Egg Cafe won the competition at Jekyll Island this past weekend.

ATLANTA, GA — Chef Andrew Smith of Midtown's West Egg Cafe won Georgia's Best Shrimp & Grits this past weekend at Jekyll Island.

The restaurant posted its congratulations to Smith on its website.

Athens-based The National Blackwater Grill from St. Simons Island came in second and third.

Smith won $2,000 and the opportunity to cook his dish for Gov. Nathan Deal and his wife.

The annual Jekyll Island Shrimp and Grits Festival combines the southern dish with family-friendly entertainment, more than 100 art and craft vendors, live music, kids’ zone, food, a craft brew fest, wildlife demonstrations, and more.
