More Than 3,000 Jobs Coming To Georgia Locations

The two major home-improvement chains are on a hiring spree for their busy spring selling season and creating temporary and permanent jobs.

ATLANTA, GA — Looking for work? You just might find it in Georgia, where the two home-improvement giants are on a big-time hiring spree and the jobs they're hiring for will start very soon.

Atlanta-based Home Depot is hiring 80,000 people company-wide for its busy spring selling season. It will be hiring about 1,200 people in metro Atlanta the coming weeks — about half of those for a roughly four-month stint and half as permanent employees — and roughly 1,800 statewide.

At the same time, Lowe's will be hiring about 1,500 people throughout Georgia, the company said in an email.

"These employees will play an important role in supplementing a team of nearly 250,000 U.S. store employees," said Steve Salazar, manager of corporate communications for Lowe's.

This past Wednesday, Lowe's hosted a National Hiring Day at all of its stores across the country.

On Tuesday, Home Depot spokeswoman Savannah Huddleston said the company typically hires about 20 employees per store in the spring and that there are 91 Home Depot locations in Georgia. That would amount to 1,820 jobs.

Home Depot told Patch the company is looking for permanent part-time help once the hardware and gardening businesses pick up during the spring. The jobs, which can be found at the company's careers site, involve cashiering, online ordering and sales.

Home Depot has launched a new tool that allows job applicants to self-schedule in-person interviews as the company works to fill more than 80,000 positions nationally for its busy spring selling season.

Using the tool, which is available 24/7 on any device, candidates who have completed an application for an open job in a Home Depot store or distribution center can easily choose the most convenient interview appointment available. About 80 percent of The Home Depot's candidates have taken advantage of the tool since the pilot began this past November, according to the company.

"Just as we're continuously evolving to meet the changing expectations of our customers, we're harnessing new technologies to do the same for job seekers," said Tim Hourigan, EVP – Human Resources. "This consumer-like experience helps us hire the best talent to serve our customers."
