Near Midtown: Cabbagetown's Krog Street Tunnel Art Painted Over in Protest
A group of artists painted over the iconic graffiti to make a statement against a private party planned inside the tunnel this weekend.

The graffiti art that has dazzled passers by at the Krog Street tunnel for years was painted over in an act of protest by artists who say the public space should not be used for private profit generation.
According to WSB-TV, the tunnel will serve as the site for a private ball held by The Atlanta Foundation for Public Spaces this weekend. The intricate murals painted on the tunnel walls and supports were to serve as a decoration for the event, but have now been returned to their original gray coloring. Organizers anticipate approximately 2,000 paying guests for the private affair, which has Atlanta police permission to proceed.
Randall Fox, who’s promoting the event, says the ball will showcase the Cabbagetown neighborhood. Fox has also hired artists to create new graffiti for the tunnel.
