Nearby: Atlanta Streetcar System Shut Down After Light Pole Falls on Wires

The light pole in the Edgewood Avenue area was knocked over by a vehicle, officials say.

The brand-new Atlanta Streetcar is offline for a brief period of time Thursday afternoon after a light pole fell over onto the overhead wires which power the vehicles, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution says.

According to the AJC, the light pole was struck by a stolen car which was involved in a police chase in the vicinity of Edgewood Avenue. None of the streetcars or their overhead electrical wires were damaged by the downed light pole.

Crews are working to free the light pole and restore the Streetcar system, a process which the AJC reports should be complete by early Thursday afternoon.
