New Report Says Atlanta Public Schools Educators' Lifetime Earnings Third-Highest in Nation
When adjusting for the cost of living in each area, only Pittsburgh and Columbus, OH teachers will earn more in a 30-year career.

A report published by the National Council on Teacher Quality states that teachers who work for Atlanta Public Schools make more than almost all of their contemporaries in other cities and will have earned more money than other teachers during a 30-year-career.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution cites the report, called “Smart Money,” and says that when considering the cost of living in each of the 113 measured districts, an APS teacher who earns a master’s degree and participates in continuing education programs will have earned $2.2 million over the course of his or her 30-year career. Only teachers in Pittsburgh and Columbus, OH, will make more over the same time period.
New APS teachers aren’t in the poorhouse, either; the report says that rookies and seasoned veterans alike bring home bigger paychecks than their colleagues at other school districts across the United States when factoring in the cost of living.
