UPDATE: Suspect Who Fired At Police From Inside Patrol Car Dies

Police say the officers in the car bailed out and returned fire, killing the suspect. It's not yet known how the suspect got a gun inside.

WSB-TV reports that once the woman began shooting at the officers inside the car, they jumped out and returned fire. The suspect was fatally wounded in the exchange, police told WSB-TV.

UPDATE: WSB-TV is now reporting that the suspect who opened fire on officers from inside an Atlanta police patrol car has died from injuries she received when officers bailed out of the car and returned fire.

UPDATE: Atlanta police are releasing more information on the officer-involved shooting outside the Fulton County Courthouse Thursday evening.

According to WSB-TV, Atlanta police say that a suspect inside a police car somehow retrieved a weapon and opened fire inside the car. The officers inside the car bailed out of the vehicle and returned fire. The suspect was wounded in the exchange and has been taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition. No officers were hurt.

UPDATE: FOX 5 Atlanta reports that the man who was shot near the Fulton County Courthouse has been transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Atlanta police reiterated that none of their officers were injured in the shooting.

ORIGINAL STORY: Atlanta police have responded to a call of shots fired near the Fulton County Courthouse in Downtown Atlanta, FOX 5 Atlanta has learned.

Police currently believe the shooting happened at a parking deck across the street from the courthouse at Pryor Street at Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. A witness told FOX 5 that she saw an Atlanta police officer and another person exchange fire. The witness said that she heard some 20 gunshots, and later saw the gunman pulled from the back seat of a police cruiser he had hidden in. The witness added that the gunman was wounded.

No Atlanta police were injured in the shooting, FOX 5 says.
