Olympic Gold Medal Stolen in Atlanta Car Break-In
Joe Jacobi won Olympic gold in 1992 in Barcelona in the canoe slalom event.

ATLANTA, GA -- An American Olympian's gold medal was stolen from his car on Monday, and a social media campaign has been launched to help him get it back.
Joe Jacobi won the gold medal in the canoe slalom event in the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics.
But on Monday, someone stole Jacobi's backpack from his car while it was parked at the LaFonda restaurant on Howell Mill Road in Midtown. The gold medal was in the backpack.

The family was eating dinner when the grab happened.
Before the thief got away, Jacobi took a photo of the car that the suspect jumped into, which has been forwarded to Atlanta police.

The car is a black Volkswagen Passat with Georgia temporary tag 20295512.
Jacobi also competed in the Athens Olympics in 2004. Wife Lisa Jacobi said the media has very little monetary value even if it is melted down, because “it has very little gold in it.
