One Dead, Cop Injured in Peachtree Street Crash

Street racing may have been a factor in the crash, which reportedly involved the son of an Atlanta assistant police chief.

ATLANTA, GA β€” Updated at 4:30 pm. One person is dead and an off-duty Atlanta police was injured early Wednesday morning during an apparent street-racing crash on Peachtree Street in Midtown.

Peachtree Street between Beverly Road and the Buford Spring Connector was closed for about five hours while police investigated.

Police said that around 3 am, a Dodge Challenger driven by an off-duty Atlanta police officer hit a stone wall below the Invesco building. Another Dodge Challenger was also involved in the incident, and the driver of the second vehicle has been arrested.

One of the passengers involved in the crash, identified as Ramish Attai, 20, died on the scene.

The AJC is reporting that the officer, whose name has not been released, is the son of an Atlanta assistant police chief.

The Georgia State Patrol has been called in to investigate the crash, and determine whether street racing was a factor.
