PBS' Tavis Smiley Selects Atlanta As One of Five Cities in the "One Great Idea Tour"to air As Part of His Nightly Show

April 4, 2016 (Atlanta, Georgia) - Tavis Smiley, the host of the late night television talk show Tavis Smiley, which airs nightly on PBS stations across the country, will travel to Atlanta on Thursday, April 21 as part of his “One Great Idea Tour”. Smiley will record his show at Georgia Public Broadcasting’s studios in front of a live audience. The episode will air Thursday, April 21 at 11 pm on GPB.

The weeklong “One Great Idea Tour” is designed to inspire the nation with solutions to some of this country’s most difficult challenges. Atlanta is one of five cities that will share “one great idea.” Smiley will discuss how Georgia has taken the lead in figuring out prison reform by reducing sentencing and helping former inmates as they reintegrate into society. It's now being seen as a template for other states.

Smiley is a broadcaster, author, publisher, advocate and philanthropist whose insightful conversations with world figures, thought-leaders, newspapers, entertainers and authors have expanded PBS’ core audiences and challenged the status quo in American media.

He is the author or co-author of 19 books; his latest book “Fifty For Your Future: Lessons From Down the Road” will be released April 5 and available for purchase and autograph at the event. In this book, Smiley shares 50 hard won lessons from life that’s taken him from Indiana to a national platform as host of Tavis Smiley on PBS, now in its 12th season.

Funding for the Tavis Smiley show is provided by Walmart, Enterprise and The California Endowment.
