Officer-Involved Shooting in NW Atlanta; GBI Investigating
The incident happened early Thursday morning in the Howell Station neighborhood.

ATLANTA, GA β Updated 12:40 pm β The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case of an Atlanta police officer-involves shooting that happened early Thursday morning in the northwest Atlanta community of Howell Station.
According to the GBI, the shooting happened around 4:30 am on Tilden Street. Atlanta police were called to the scene regarding a reported attempted car break-in. Police arrived to find "an individual crouched down near a vehicle parked in a driveway," according to a GBI statement. "The officers requested the subject to step out with his hands up. At that time, the subject displayed a firearm and fired shots in the direction of the officers. One of the officers returned fire, striking the subject. The subject fled a short distance before being apprehended."
The suspect was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where he is in stable condition.

A weapon was recovered at the scene of the incident, the GBI said.
