Learn tips for pitching to national media at annual media day event
ATLANTA – July 31, 2015 – The Public Relations Society of America Georgia Chapter (prsageorgia.org) will host two events on Thursday, August 13: a morning seminar on how to respond to the media in a breaking news or crisis situation, then a luncheon featuring a panel of journalists who will share exclusive insights into the types of stories that put companies and clients in the national spotlight. Both events will be held at Maggiano’s Buckhead in Atlanta.

This year’s annual media day event assembles a panel of journalists whose reporting reaches across the nation and beyond. Panelists include Jim Van Anglen, Deep South Editor, Associated Press; Jim Burress, Senior Reporter, National Public Radio; Jonathan Serrie, Correspondent, Fox News; and Anita Sharpe, Atlanta Bureau Chief, Bloomberg.
Panelists will discuss trends in reporting and share insights into the types of stories that will help you put companies and clients in the spotlight. The panel will be moderated by Kathy Barbour, APR and National PRSA 2015 Chair.

Pre-Luncheon Seminar: “What to Do When the Gumbo Hits the Hot Pot”: How to Respond to the Media in a Breaking News or Crisis Situation
From traditional news conferences to tweets, speaker Dr. Joseph V. Trahan, III, APR, Fellow PRSA, will provide comprehensive instruction on how to respond to media in a breaking news or crisis situation. This interactive seminar, which is appropriate for public relations professionals at all career levels, will teach participants how to craft key messages, provide resources to handle difficult situations in an ever-changing digital age and evaluate timely and relevant examples of crisis communications.

PRSA Georgia (prsageorgia.org), the second-largest local chapter in the national society, consists of more than 900 professionals throughout Georgia. Its mission is to enhance the profession, provide continuing education and offer networking opportunities for its members. The Chapter hosts regular monthly meetings and seminars, an Annual Conference for professionals and an annual Real World PR collegiate conference day.
The Chapter includes eight Special Interest Groups (Corporate and Employee Communications, Healthcare, Independent Counselors, Leader Board, Nonprofit, Technology, Travel and Tourism, and Young Professionals) that meet at various times.
