Riccardo Ullio's Fourth Try for a Latino Restaurant in Midtown Set to Open Thursday
Escorpion Tequila Bar and Cantina to open at Peachtree and 5th streets.
Update: The opening of Escorpion Tequila Bar and Cantina was delayed. The restaurant opened May 23.
Riccardo Ullio -- the restaurateur behind U Restaurants whose portfolio includes Inman Park's Sotto Sotto and Fritti restaurants -- will open his fourth attempt at a Latino-style eatery in Midtown.
Ullio owned and operated three restaurants at 905 Juniper. But all three closed.

Called Escorpion Tequila Bar and Cantina, Ullio’s newest venture will open in the former Eno by Zaza space (most recently 5th Street Cafe), said Lyle Richardson, director of operations for U Restaurants.
The "Mexican saloon" at 800 Peachtree Street is set to open next Thursday, May 19, according to Richardson. But he said it might open earlier.

"We're in the city's hands with those permits," Richardson said.
The menu, which Richardson said is still being developed, will consist of "authentic Mexican with flare."
Entrees will be priced under $20.
"All of our cocktails will use Tequila," Richardson said about the bar menu, which he called a "tequila cocktail program."
Designed by Patty Krohngold, the 5,800-square-foot space has seating for 200 people inside and outside on the patio. Interior walls have been removed to open up the space and create "synergy" between the dining area and bar, according to Richardson.
"It'll be a Mexican Saloon where Pancho Villa would hangout," Richardson said. "We're trying to bring the quality of service and style at Sotto Sotto and Fritti to Midtown but with Mexican Flare."
Midtown Patch asked Richardson on a trip to the location Thursday what will make Escorpion succeed where Ullio's now shuttered Cuerno, Lupe and Beleza, failed.
"Cuerno was completely different," Richardson said. "Lupe worked great, but it's difficult to be on a one-way street where you can't open for business until 6:30 p.m."
Midtown resident Kamden Robb, who lives near the restaurant, said he planned on trying Escorpion when it opens.
"I'll go a couple times a week if even just for a drink," Robb said. "I think the concept fits in with what the neighborhood wants."
