Shanks Discovered in Fulton Jail's High-Security Area

Corrections officers say they found a number of improvised weapons and cell phones in one zone of the maximum-security area.

Fulton County jail workers have recovered several shanks and cell phones hidden in one of the most heavily-secured portions of the facility.

Jailers displayed plastic bags filled with cell phones and shanks that were seized from 7North, an area which houses gang members and murderers. WSB-TV reports that corrections officers found six cell phones and three shanks during a shakedown of just one section of 7North.

Most worrying to jail officials is the possibility that a guard has been smuggling in the phones for use by the convicts; WSB-TV reports that officers have found a meal meant for guards inside the cell of an inmate.
