Sidewalk Maintenance Forum Next Week

The Atlanta City Council may soon adopt an ordinance that frees property owners from having to pay for sidewalk repairs.

In light of a proposed Atlanta City Council ordinance which would shift the burden of sidewalk maintenance off property owners, a pedestrian organization is holding a forum to discuss the issue.

PEDS' forum will be held on July 30 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Midtown. Apart from discussing the proposed ordinance, participants will also examine ways for the city to fund sidewalk maintenance. Todd Fulk will share some best practices other cities use to reduce tripping hazards for pedestrians.

The Atlanta Utilities Committee will decide on Aug. 26 whether or not to pass an ordinance that will end the requirement that property owners must pay for repairs of sidewalks that abut their properties.

For more information on the forum or the ordinance, please contact PEDS at 404-685-8722.
