Tech Named One of Nation's Most Exclusive Public Colleges
GT ranked No. 18 a list released by an independent college search and rankings site.

An independent college search and rankings site has named Georgia Tech as one of the nation's top 25 most exclusive public bachelor's colleges by admissions rate.
No.1 on AffordableSchools.net's rankings list is the U.S. Naval Academy, followed by the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, NY, and the University of California-Berkeley (Berkeley, California), in second and third places respectively.
Georgia Tech was ranked No. 18.

"Exclusivity in student admissions has its benefits, but for those without a private-school budget, an exclusive public school is a possible alternative," said Raj Dash, the article's lead researcher. "There is a long list of benefits for both types of colleges. However, tuition can be lower for both in-state and out-of-state students at public schools.
"There's some notion that private schools are more prestigious, but many of the schools on this list have high undergrad graduation rates; various award-winning faculty, staff and students; world-class resources and facilities and much more."

Rankings for this list were compiled with data from NCES, a bureau of the U.S. Department of Education. The research included public, bachelor's-granting colleges, admissions information, then filtered for 40% or lower admissions rates, and applied several other factors.
