Two Atlanta Corporate Icons Among Mega-Political Donors

Bernie Marcus and John C. Cushman are among the biggest donors in the 2016 White House election.

With Wednesday’s announcement that Vice President Joe Biden will not enter the 2016 presidential race, the New York Times is reporting that two Atlanta iconic executives are among the nation’s biggest mega-donors in next year’s election.

Home Depot co-founder -- and founder of the Georgia Aquarium -- Bernie Marcus has contributed $1.6 million to race, while Cushman & Wakefield’s Chairman John C. Cushman has given $302,700, according to the New York Times.

  1. The Wilks family, $15 million. From Texas, the family has earned billions in fracking.
  2. The Mercer family, $11.3 million. The family has several Wall Street hedge fund manager.
  3. Toby Neugebauer, $10 million. Co-founder of a private equity firm and son of U.S. Rep. Randy Neugebauer (R-TX).
  4. Kelcy Warren, $6 million. Dallas billionaire.
  5. Ricketts family, $5.1 million. Founder of TD Ameritrade and owner of the Chicago Cubs.
  6. Deason family, $5 million. Patriarch is a Dallas-based billionaire.
  7. Diane Hendricks, $5 million. Co-founder of a Wisconsin roofing company.
  8. Norman Braman, $5 million. Florida billionaire auto dealer.
  9. Fernandez family, $3.1 million. Miguel Fernandez built a health care firms and now runs a private equity company.
  10. Ronald M. Cameron, $3 million. CEO of Mountaire.
