Uber, Lyft May Soon Be Allowed at Atlanta Airport

A plan to legalize and regulate the app-based ride companies at Atlanta's airport will be considered this week.

ATLANTA, GA β€” A plan to legalize and regulate Uber and Lyft at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport will come before the city council on Wednesday.

The proposal would set up a ride-share assembly area at the airport, and would also charge a per-ride fee of $1.50.

"We are pleased with the progress that has been made on this issue," said Adrian Durbin, Lyft spokesman. "We look forward to continuing to work with City and airport leadership to reach an agreement that allows Lyft to operate at the airport."

Airport officials have been insisting that Uber and Lyft drivers be fingerprinted and subjected to background checks in order to pick up passengers. Both companies have been objecting.
