Join exhibition curator Elizabeth Goizueta as she illuminates the work of Cuban Surrealist and “poetic visionary” Wifredo Lam. Born in Cuba in 1902–the year Cuba gained its independence from Spain–to a Chinese father and a mother of African and Spanish descent, Lam spent significant time in his native Cuba, as well as Spain, France, and Italy.
Follow Goizueta on the evolutionary trajectory of Lam’s work, examining the literary, artistic, academic, and geographic influences on Lam’s style throughout his career.
