Garden Club to install local heritage camellias on Tallokas (moultrieobserver.com) — A new Tallokas Garden of Moultrie is being created at the triangle between Tallokas Road, Second Street SE, and Crescent Drive to showcase heritage camellias tied to Moultrie and South Georgia residents. The Morning Glory Garden Club and City of Moultrie are partnering on the project and are asking locals for donations, old camellia leads, and community support to finish plantings, signage, and seating.
2. King is spotlighted in publication by Georgia Association of Educators (moultrieobserver.com) — Moultrie's own retired teacher Clovis King will join the Colquitt County School Board in January, succeeding longtime member Trudie Hill after her 22 years of service. King says she wants to be a listening ear and strong advocate for teachers, support staff, bus drivers, and residents who feel unheard, promising to model Hill's responsive, community-focused approach.
3. Barge, Lawson could have significant impact on Friday (moultrieobserver.com) — Colquitt County fans in Moultrie will see some familiar faces Friday when Lee County visits the Hawg Pen, led by former Packers quarterback Cohen Lawson and ex-Colquitt assistant coach Bull Barge. With Lee County undefeated and coming off dramatic wins, the matchup raises big questions about whether Colquitt's defense can contain its former signal-caller on his old home field.
4. Meet the 2026 Southeastern Farmer of the Year Award winners (farmprogress.com) — Moultrie will host seven top farmers from across the Southeast when the Sunbelt Ag Expo recognizes each state's Farmer of the Year and announces the overall winner on October 20. Honorees receive cash prizes, trips to the Expo, and a keepsake from the Moultrie-Colquitt County Chamber of Commerce, bringing regional attention and visitors to the community.
5. Mr. Gilbert M. Largent, age 95, of Rome, Georgia formerly of Decatur, Illinois (coosavalleynews.com) — A 95-year-old Navy veteran with family ties to Moultrie has passed away in Rome, Georgia, with one of his children residing here. He served 20 years in the U.S. Navy, later worked as a maintenance foreman, and will be cremated, with interment beside his wife in Illinois at a later date.
