The boy's mother was inside the home when the gun went off, police said in a news release. They said no charges are expected to be filed against the mother.
"This is a very sad and unfortunate reminder for gun owners to ensure that your guns are locked in a place that children cannot access," Gwinnett Police Cpl. Deon Washington said in an email. "It is also a reminder of how important it is to teach children the dangers of playing with guns."
