Strawberry Picking at Washington Farms

It's strawberry season once again! In the South, those delicious, red, juicy strawberries are ripe and ready for picking from April to June. Washington Farms is a local farm with two locations just outside of Atlanta, Georgia. In the spring, you can go pick your own strawberries. In the summer, it's blueberries and blackberries. And in the fall, they have pumpkins. Pretty darn awesome, if you ask me.

We headed over to the Loganville location (there's another strawberry farm in Watkinsville, GA near Athens), with a couple of our good friends. The farm is a bit of a drive from Atlanta, about 45 minutes, but just wait... once you see and taste those strawberries you'll forget all about that long commute.

When you arrive, you get a 1 gallon bucket to fill up with strawberries. Cost for a gallon of strawberries is $10 per bucket, plus $1 if you decide to take the bucket home with you. In other words, bring another container to transport your harvest home and you save $1. We kept our buckets from last year's strawberry picking so saved us a bit of money. Then they set you loose out to the fields to pick your berries! Just rows upon rows of beautiful strawberry plants

Now we have one gallon of strawberries in our kitchen. What to do with them? I think chocolate chip strawberry bread and strawberry banana pancakes are going to be on the menu soon! So, if you're in the Atlanta area and are looking for something fun and different to do, make sure to schedule a half-day trip to Washington Farms to pick some strawberries for yourself.
